Day of the Dead Craft Kit

Día De Los Muertos Sand Painting Kit

$39.95

Día de los Muertos offers an affectionate and often playful way to remember people who have passed away—with stories, food, flowers, music, color, and celebration.

The Día de los Muertos Calavera Sand Painting Kit provides an engaging introduction to this Mexican tradition while leaving room for each participant to make the experience their own. A calavera (skull) may be created in memory of someone special, as part of a Día de los Muertos gathering, or simply for the pleasure of working with color, pattern, and sand.

A colorful, year-round craft with cultural meaning and broad visual appeal

The Día de los Muertos Calavera Sand Painting Kit is much more than a seasonal November activity. Its bold skull imagery, vivid color, and hands-on creative process give it year-round appeal—especially among teens, young adults, craft enthusiasts, and shoppers drawn to Mexican art, calaveras, and the distinctive visual world associated with artists such as Frida Kahlo.

The kit introduces customers to Día de los Muertos through an accessible creative experience that can be enjoyed alone or shared with family and friends. Participants use brilliant colored sand to create playful calavera designs inspired by the decorated sugar skulls associated with the celebration.

Although traditional sugar skulls are made from sugar rather than sand, the familiar term immediately evokes their colorful flowers, patterns, and expressive faces. Each finished sand painting becomes a unique interpretation of that joyful visual tradition.

Three Steps to Create Your Calaveras

1

Peel off each section of the design

Choose a design area and peel off the protective sheet with the wooden stylus to expose sticky backing.

2

Pour your sand

Pour your colored sand over the sticky region. Smooth it into place and tap away excess.

3

Rub and add designs

Use the fine point of the stylus to etch customized details before placing it on your family ofrenda.

Everything you need to make 4 Calavera Sand painting Skulls plus ideas for Ofrenda altars and a guidebook about the tradition

1

12 Colors of sand

There is a thin coat of adhesive under each pre-drawn section. Peel up the paper, then sprinkle your chosen sand color on the adhesive. Shake off the excess to reveal a rich, textured color layer.

4 Calavera Skull Design Canvases

Work section by section to block out the iconic features — vibrant eyes, floral cheeks, and marigold borders. The textured sand locks together cleanly without bleeding.

Before the adhesive fully cures, use our fine wood stylus to etch patterns, spirals, and traditional details directly into the sand, then fill the lines with a contrasting color.
